how do i know if i got into smith for the fall too?
also the link from this page does not work University of Maryland - Apply, Undergraduates Admissions, University of Maryland

Thanks bulletandpima, what is the difference between the two programs though? My son was accepted into the University Honors program. I'm just not sure of the difference between this program and the College Park Scholars programs. (He would not be interested in Gemstone or Humanities. Is that what the Scholars program is?)

Thanks.

According to our DS (he is in Scholars Govt) He can take honors courses b/c he is in scholars. His program lasts only 2 yrs. Their degree has a Scholars citation. Kids in the program do seminar/colloquium every week, that is hwy they are dormed together (actually held within the dorm). They also have the ability to intern on Embassy Row or UN. I am sure gemstone and honors humanities have something equivalent. We have a dear friend whose niece is in honors humanities for music, she too loves it.

I do recall that when he filled his ap that they asked about working in groups, if you said no, than you are not a candidate.

Honors is the highest of all of them. I am sure they have every program that Scholars offers. Scholars offers very small classes. Can't speak for the others. DS's econ was the largest with @200, every other class was @30. Their curriculumn is dictated according to their major. He Is Govt and Politics with a minor in Military history. He is only a freshman, but his etire college course career is already plotted.

The beauty of these programs that students don't feel like the university is huge. Kids within a program are dormed together and they attend a seperate orientation. They also move in 1 day before everybody else. DS made friends at orientation and still hangs with them everyday.

Each group has their own dorms, Cambridge, and Ellicott are for Scholars and Gemstone. I believe honors are in Anne Arundel.

That is about all I can help out in the sit.

DS also received merit under Presidential.

Thanks bulletandpima, one last question, when do you find out about a merit award? Is it with the acceptance letter?

Thanks again!

they send scholarship offers out from march through april

Thank you DiN009.

accepted!!!

We found out in March. DS got Pres. I have said it before, I don't think UMD is free with their money, but their endowment fund is not very large compared to others.

UMD has a great 0% interest compared to PLUS payment plan, it is 8 or 10 months. For freshman for stafford loans they have a limit...5500 for fresh, 6500 for soph, 7500 for jr.

Get your folks to work on FAFSA now, because the pot of money only goes so far

accepted as well, but due to my rather poor performance (understatement of the century) in freshman/sophomore year, I do not appear to have quite made the cut for the Honors Program, though I was kind of hoping that my test scores and performance in junior year would kind of balance it out

any chance of getting into the honors program if I was not invited in my decision?

i'm in!! congrats everyone!!!! i'm going!

DiN2009 you are amazing.

i got in (OOS) so im feelin good haha but where on the site were we supposed to find that link checking the admissions decision??? because if it wasnt for CC i wouldnt have found out at all lol

I'm in. =)
Thanks DiN!

I'm in! Thanks for the link.

alright now im real confused, when i click the link that DiN009 posted, it shows my acceptance.

but when i go to the admissions site and click "check your admissions decision online" this message comes up:

Check Your Decision and Confirm Your Enrollment

This site is currently inactive. You will be able to check your decision and confirm your enrollment after freshman admissions decisions have been mailed for the Fall 2009 semester. Please check here again in the beginning of February.

Transfer admissions decisions for the Fall 2009 semester will begin to be mailed in mid-March.

If you have been admitted for the Spring 2009 semester, please contact your advising college and/or the Registrar's Office to proceed with next steps. The Registrar's office can be reached at 301-314-8240.

can anyone else try this out and tell me if they get the same message?

I received the same message - I think everyone did. UMD Admissions has not officially released the info - the link DiN009 posted bypasses the admission decision page so you can see your results
