Do you all hear online, both acceptance and scholarship, or do they send you a letter in mail/email.?

Of those accepted, what is GPA, ACT/SAT score? Thanks

Of those accepted, what is GPA, ACT/SAT score? Thanks

Um, okay so when I first got my Gibson Online ID, it told me like application info, like status and stuff, and now when I login, there’s nothing, as if I never applied…HELP?

For those that were accepted, how long ago did you send in your application, etc.

collegesgirl - online you only see your accepted/deferred/wait-listed/denied status. If you are accepted you have to wait for the letter to see about merit scholarship and Honors Program invite. From what I have seen on here, it seems to take 3-4 weeks to see a decision once it says your application is complete, longer if you are borderline.

My daughter sent in her app on 10/31/09 and found out she was accepted just a couple of days ago. Still no formal letter, hoping for lots of merit aid!

sprevite - your best bet is to call the admissions office if you still are not seeing anything via online. They are very helpful and will put your mind at ease regarding your application actually being there and complete/incomplete/under review.

I just checked online and found out I got accepted. I haven’t recieved the official letter yet. Would that detail any merit/financial aid i would recieve?

Yes, you only find out about merit aid and invitation to the Honors Program in the snail mail letter. This I know from experience. I think financial aid is separate and comes later because a lot of people probably haven’t filed all the paperwork yet, but I wouldn’t swear to that because I didn’t do that myself and I haven’t heard anything on this thread about that.

Do you know the typical ACT score, GPA, Class Rank, that is associated with their Honors College and Merit Aid?

I don’t, and it would be very interesting to see that stats for a range of people that were invited to the Honors Program. Just to beat my well worn drum, it is an Honors Program, not a separate Honors College.

I do know for a fact, from what Dr. Luongo said at the Honors Weekend last spring, that between 8% and 12% of the freshman class was in the Honors Program. My intuition (and please remember it is only that, or maybe all the way up to an educated guess), is that either only students that get the Presidential Merit Scholarship or those plus the next scholarship level are offered a place in the Honors Program as entering freshmen. So just guessing again, I think the ACT would be 33+ (SAT 2070+) and class rank in top 5%. GPA kind of meaningless because they vary too much. Also strength of high school schedule will be a big factor. These are the kind of considerations that go into the awarding of the merit scholarships, which is why I think they are correllated to invitations to the Honors Program at a nearly 1-1 ratio.

I am so jealous of you guys.
Been 2 weeks and a day now since the status changed :(

Hang in there, you will know soon. What are your stats? I know you are hoping for Pomona (great school!), do you know anything from there yet?

25,000/year, presidential scholar.

ACT: 33
SAT subject tests: 740, 760, 790
GPA: ~99
Rank: #1

Congrats to everyone, this is my first acceptance, so i am super pumped :)

Congrats LAJ, great stats. Are you applying for the DHS? You would seem to have an excellent chance. Also, I assume you were invited to the Honors Program?

I sent in all of my materials on 10/29/09, and am still waiting for my application to show complete! According to Gibson Online, they’re still missing my transcript. I called and spoke to an admissions rep at the end of last week, as I was having problems with other schools receiving my transcript, and was told to wait another week. They were swamped with mail and nothing had been sorted yet. I’m just wondering, at this point, why people who applied after me are receiving decisions before me. Oh well, I guess I’ll just have to sit tight.

Good luck to all those accepted! I hope to be joining you.

Fallenchemist: Haven’t heard anything from Pomona yet. Probably Mid December-ish.
And my stats are:

Large Public School, 32 ACT, 2140 SAT (1490/1600), Decently Hard Classes with an 89 Average.

Trying to keep my expectations low.

leeduh - you will be accepted to Tulane for sure, most likely with good merit scholarship offer. Depends somewhat on how many AP’s and your EC’s, but unless there is something buried in there I cannot see, you will get accepted IMO. So at the risk of raising your expectations, just relax and enjoy Thanksgiving.

Curious if you care to answer: If you got into Pomona with no scholarship and tulane with, say, $22K (just guessing) or let’s say $15K/year, any thoughts on which you would choose? Sure this is a Tulane board, but we all understand there are lots of great schools and fit is important, so no pressure to bias towards Tulane at all.

fallenchemist: Thanks for the encouragement! I’m taking 4 APs this year, took 1 AP and one college course last year. Decent EC’s, nothing huge or spectacular. My school doesn’t rank, but with my average I’m probably only sneaking by into the top 25/20% of my class (700 students). I think i’ll be accepted, but it’d be nice to get some money

I did ED to Pomona, so no matter how generous the offer I get from Tulane, I’d have to go to Pomona, not that it would be a bad thing.

I’m from NYC, and Tulane is the only school I’m applying to in the south. If I get rejected from Pomona, Tulane would definitely be in the conversation. I’ll be honest and say that while I’m not rich, my family will not really be struggling financially to send me to college. Financial Offers are factors for me, not a necessity.

That’s cool. Of course they can’t really make you go to Pomona (no school would take you to court or anything, they would just make you feel really bad, lol), but I completely agree that ethically you have an agreement with them. Not, as you say, that it would be a bad thing in the least. Everyone I know that has gone there says it is great, and other things I hear seem to confirm that. I have only been to the campus once, and it seemed like a very positive place. I wish you super good luck with them. Let us know when you hear, if you think about it. We are all voyeurs on here, after all.

i just got accepted too! how long until i get the letter in the mail? i just got accepted two days ago. do i have a chance at getting financial aid or scholarships? my SAT is 2120, SAT subject tests were 670 and 740, 31 ACT. thanks for any help i am so happy just to be accepted! tulane is so cool
