<p>It may be that U of AZ is too expensive, but they need to say so, if that’s the issue. Either way, there is a communication problem going on. Either they allowed their child to apply to a school they weren’t planning on accepting in the end (maybe in the hope that their child wouldn’t be accepted), they are being dishonest about their reasons for rejecting an OOS school, or they have cold feet. As others have said, discussions about where you’re willing to allow your child to go should be done BEFORE applications are set. If there are going to be caveats (like we can only afford it if it comes in under a certain price), that should be discussed then too. It’s not fair to give the student hope, and then pull the rug out from under her.</p>
