Accepting an Offer For Housing

Hi all,

I have been accepted to the University of Illinois Urbana-Champaign, and I am currently waiting to hear from other schools. In order to secure housing, my parents want me to accept my offer of admission and choose a dorm. Since the other schools that I would go to over UIUC are reach schools, I will likely be attending UIUC in the fall. However, if I get into one of my reach schools, am I able to retract my acceptance and go to another school?

Thank you

Yes you can do this. You will just loose any deposits for housing and enrollment you put down which are usually small in the scheme of things. We had to do that - just check refund policies of UIUC. Also, there are some schools that let you sign up for housing without committing, so just be sure you have to commit first.

Making a deposit at a university does not cement your undergraduate decision in stone, no. You can retract it. You’ll just lose the money.
