Accidental Deletion Horror Stories

So Sunday I was writing my 5 page Psychology research paper due on Monday, yeah I procrastinated, and on the second to last paragraph I hit exit don't save and lost the whole thing!! So I had a few moments of sheer panic and crying but finally pulled though and finished it. So I was wondering if anything similar has happened to other people so I don't feel alone.

Oh my god yes. On Saturday when the power went out I was on the conclusion part of my quarterly lab report for ap bio. So the whole gd thing took me like 4 hours and before I had to try and find my lab sheet that I used in the mess known as my backpack. I’m on the sources of error part and the power for a out cause of the frigging SNOW! I almost stopped breathing. And I was without power till last night (a week and 2 days) so today I had to redo my entire lab amongst my other hw. And I pretty much did a crap job since I was rushing. There goes that A. I. Hate. Snow.

I HATED that storm but luckily I didn’t lose power but I know a lot of people who did. Technology is so not fun sometimes.

I habitually save anything I’m writing every 30 seconds. I don’t know why I do it so frequently, but I just periodically hit Ctrl+S.

This has happened to me twice before that I can remember.

  1. I was writing my history essay and I was literally so close to finishing. I, however, habitually used to not save anything until I finished (this habit is now broken, thankfully). So, then my stupid laptop restarted for some reason and everything was lost.
  2. I was typing my mun special agency application online where you were supposed to. Then, as I was just finishing up the super-long one that I was super proud of, THE PAGE REFRESHED and everything was lost. After that, I decided to type it on word before copying and pasting.
Both times I screamed and cried so hard, lol.

Laptops ftw.

Never really had that problem. Usually it’s just that my printer doesn’t work, and that’s annoying.

One time I translated an entire essay on George Washington into Portuguese and I couldn’t change it back. Still not really sure how I managed that one…

I accidentally spilt a gallon of milk onto my laptop the morning a paper was due and I hadn’t printed it yet. I got my mom to write a note, and my teacher gave me an extra day.

I use google docs most of the time because it periodically saves everything. Since the margins are pretty weird, I just download it into word & I’m all good. Hasn’t failed yet.

It hasn’t happened with a school paper, but one time my phone was screwing up and I had to reset it. Problem: my backup wasn’t there. 500 photos, gone.

When I’m writing something important I link MS Word with Gmail so it automatically saves whatever you write as a draft in real-time.

Had too many accidents in the past haha

^ How do you link it? I have a Mac so I habitually hit command + S
As well, newer versions of word sometimes saves a copy of unsaved files for the next time you open word.
