Accounting and International Business?

My son will be a freshman at CSOM - U of Minnesota this fall. Accounting looks interesting to him. He really is unsure about what his exact major will be but had originally signed up for advanced spanish classes, fulfilling the language requirements for a secondary business major in international business.

Does anyone combine accounting with international business or is it a bad idea for a double major? My son's spanish speaking skills are certainly not fluent and may not be even after taking some college spanish.

Let me know what you think or what experiences you've had. Thanks.

At the end it depends what his goals are. In the United States Spanish is big as a second langauge. You can make big money if you are fluent in Spanish and English lanagages.

For new lanaguage learning, reading is easy, writing is difficult and speaking fluent is even harder.

The way you learn the language is hanging around people that speak the lanuage fluently. Watching a lot of Spanish T.V. can also help.

I would go with the bachelor in accounting. Accounting is a great concentration. It is the language of business and the jobs are endless. I would rather get a minor in Spanish than international studies. The minor is Spanish will be more helpful.

You can pick your elective classes. So I would pick internation accounting as one of them. Sometimes international business is part of the core business classes if not you can always have the class as a elective.

It is not worth double concentrating in international business.

Thanks for your response. It was helpful.
