There has been some talk recently about double majoring in Accounting and MIS. There isn't a whole lot of information about this career path online so maybe we can compile some facts into this thread.

What are some good jobs for a double major in MIS and Accounting?
Accounting Information Systems (AIS), IT auditing, ....anything else???

If you cant find a job that uses both Accounting and MIS right out of college, what would be your best choice for an entry level job?
Probably accounting.....

What major should you try getting an internship in after your sophomore/junior year?
An accounting/finance internship or a more technical/MIS internship??

What is the salary/potential salary for someone who double majors in Accounting and MIS?
After doing a search for "IT auditor" on indeed.com, the minimum salary listed is $60k and a search for "accounting information systems" lists $50k as the minimum. It appears that there is potential to make over $100k a year in senior, manager, controller, or director positions that require 5+ years of experience.

I think you pretty much nailed it. You can work for a Big 4 firm in IT auditing/advisory. If that doesn’t work out, you could always fall back into a job in either accounting or IT.

Potential salary should be similiar to what you see accountants at Big 4 firms make.

The preferable internship would be one working for a Big 4 firm. If you can’t land that, another client facing internship would be ideal (perhaps IT consulting).

I too am looking to dual major in both Accounting and MIS. I am currently a junior majoring in accounting. After researching this combination, working with the government, developing accounting software, communicating with accounts to develop various projects, being an IT auditor, etc. would be best suited job placements. Accounting alone is tough but to add MIS too would be another thing. Recall that MIS is the bridge connecting computer engineers with business. As a double major, you would both have a grasp of accounting and the business foundation to both communicate and generate potential software/ information systems to effeciently perform accounting tasks. Few, if any can execute this double major and be successful in it. Take it from an accounting tutor, complete the Intermediate Accounting courses first before situating in MIS. Understanding the core competencies of accounting will give you a purpose and seeing how a dual major in MIS would assist in developing accounting softwares to become more efficient as well as becoming an IT Auditor, analyzing data following governement standards or even looking into forensic accounting (best pathway). Hope this helps.
