I am an undergrad student at USF. Currently I am declared double major in accounting and marketing. However, I was informed by my advisor that if I do double major, my graduation will be delayed!

So I am deciding to give up one. Which one should I give up: marketing or accounting?

Which one will open the doors to opportunities?

Thanks

Marketing at USF will see you at a low paying sales job 10 years after graduation. You will always get at least a decent job as a CPA. If you like it, go with accounting.

How delayed? As both majors are in the school of business, you likely won't have to repeat the business core. Just the individual marketing and accounting requirements. I would worry about loading up the business credits though - a minor in area studies or a science might be a more efficient use of your elective credits. If you're going to grad school, a comprehensive MBA, rather than a MS in Accounting, may help your career prospects just as well as a double major.

Do you mean that marketing in general is just bad? Or that marketing in that particular school will lead to terrible paying jobs?

Thanks for all your inputs! It is really helpful.

To HippieMann: I mean both!

Really?!? Are you even aware of the various marketing job opportunities? In regards to a "low paying sales job" are you insinuating that he could only land non-commissioned sales jobs?

I mean marketing specifically at USF, HippieMann.
