Hello all,

I'm a senior who can graduate this December with an accounting degree and over 150 credits. I recently added a marketing minor as it was only three classes and I figured if I couldn't get a job/internship lined up this spring I'd just belt out the second major in Marketing. I did a previous tax internship and firms are loving that, so I don't believe I'll have trouble finding work.

Here are the variables:

1) Taking 24 credits right now, 15 are essential for my accounting degree, the other 9 are for the marketing minor. While I can handle this, it just seems absurd. It's my final semester of school - enjoy it? If I had 15 I could slaughter this semester.

2) School is super cheap for me (i.e. less than $3k additional debt for another semester) AND I won a scholarship that pays two semesters. I received the fall payment, but the spring payment WILL NOT be funded if I'm not enrolled full time. The spring portion is $1,250.

3) Only a couple firms would consider taking someone on in the summer, the vast majority want immediate starts in January. Would most likely have to go with an extremely small public accounting firm if I wanted to stay in school another semester. A few more mentioned that if they "LOVE YOU" they would make exceptions. Overall, limits my options.

4) I really love my marketing classes. I see this as a way to be more well rounded and add more assets to a company. Most times people are either creative or realistic. This would bring two polarizing ends together. Perhaps forget the major/minor and just get an MBA/Masters down the road if I really love it?

5) I have a lease until September '14 on an apartment. If I do not stay enrolled in school or find work nearby I will most likely have to pay double rent. I could sublease, but I live in Minnesota and finding renters in the winter is a pain in the ass.

To me the opportunity cost just seem way too high to mess around. I'd love to keep learning, earn another degree, and stay in school longer, but there would be large ramifications. What irks me is there are a few variables saying to stay in school (it's cheap, I have a scholarship, and I'm stuck in a lease).

Thoughts?
