Hey I'm a first year community college student getting ready to transfer soon and I've narrowed my search down to UCLA and UCSB. I want to go into accounting and I have researched that both schools are recruited by the Big Four. I'm predicting that my GPA will be around 3.9 - 4.0. Do I have a chance in getting into UCLA's Business Econ major or should I just go to UCSB's Bus Econ. I heard that UCLA's classes are much harder. Is it worth it to go to UCLA?

Having actually taken one of the accounting classes i can tell you that the accounting classes at UCSB are not very difficult. I took Econ 3A winter quarter when i used to goto UCSB before i transfered to a CCC. You're pretty much guaranteed to UCSB with that GPA and for LA you're right in the ballpark.

Oh ok thank you. Would it be better to go to UCSB and get a higher GPA than going to UCLA and probably getting a lower GPA?

Going to UCSB does not necessarily mean you'll get a higher gpa. I think you'll get a higher gpa at the school where you fit in and feel most comfortable.

UCSB is a really good accounting school. Fwiw, I have a brother who's an accountant and works for one of the big fours and he tells me how his manager raves about UCSB despite getting a degree from a different college.

But keep in mind, you should go to the school that gives you the best opportunity to get you into a stellar business school (which is what is required of you). I know it might be a financial reach but have you considered Santa Clara University?

Yes I have considered Santa Clara University. I think it is out of my reach financially though.

I applied to UCLA, UCSB, and USC. If accounting is your thing, go USC. It has the superior recruiting, curriculum, career support, networking, and financial aid. I estimate that I will have to pay around $10,000 a year at the UC's (based on the financial aid estimators on thier sites) and will only have to pay $4,000 at USC. This is impressive considering USC's budgeted cost is twice that of the UC's.

That is very impressive to hear. Where did you find the cost estimator for USC's site? I looked but I couldn't find it.

more than SCU, trust me on that one...

if you want to work for the big four and you are going to look at privates, SCU is the best choice. they recruit alot of people from SCU.

as for public, i just asked my brother and he said UCSB. just my two cents.
