ACES to Engineering

Hi, I understand that ACES students need at least a 2.7 GPA to get into the School of Engineering. What are the GPA requirements for each of the engineering programs though?

I've heard that mechanical engineering requires at least a 3.4. What about the rest? I've been trying to contact someone at the SoE about this issue but my emails are being ignored.

My son applied to the SoE with a selected major, but on his admissions status page it indicated first choice as ACES/Exploratory. After a couple of weeks of emails and phone calls to try to find out if this was an error or not, Admissions (finally) told us that this was due to an error caused by the CommonApp - the field for program/major selection came through blank - and instead of delaying having the app “completed”, they assigned ACES. I don’t know how many applicants were affected. They said they are dealing with it on a case-by-case basis. Send admissions an email if this is what happened to you.
(if you chose Undecided/undeclared or one of the pre-professional programs that automatically begins in ACES - Education, pharmacy, etc - then I think ACES would be correct for your application status).

@engrstudent95 My freshman roommate was originally in ACES and applied to the SOE as an environmental engineer with a 2.8 GPA after the first year and was admitted. Aside for Mech, aim for a 3.0 and you will definitely be admitted to the SOE regardless of major provided that there is enough space. Mech only has a 3.4 GPA requirement because it is popular and fills up quickly, it is not the most difficult of the engineering majors. Getting the 2.7 GPA is more than doable, many students are able to transfer in to the SOE with ease even after their first semester. Just talk with your ACES counselor during orientation in the summer or during the spring if you are a current ACES student.

@WhataProcess that is very strange that they made that error. It should also be noted that some applicants who list engineering/business as their first choice but are not qualified for those majors are initially admitted into the ACES program. If the student doesn’t have the grades more specifically SAT scores for engineering but is still a good candidate for UConn overall they will be admitted into ACES with the option to transfer to the SOE after they prove themselves(GOOD GPA).
