<p>Did anyone else get an application for the Achievement Award Program? Are you going to apply?</p>
<p>Everybody is invited to apply; it's like the Alumni Scholarships.</p>
<p>but on the front it says"berkeley wants YOU." so is it like "likely letter "or something?</p>
<p>UC's and particularly competitive UC's like Berkeley and UCLA do not send "likely letters." </p>
<p>You can apply for the award because FastWeb reports it and you don't need an invitation.</p>

<p>Award Amount: Up to $5,700 per year (renewable at up to $5,700 per year for 1 year for transfers and 3 years for freshmen). The actual award amount given will be based on your level of need and determined by the Office of Financial Aid. </p>
<p>Number of Awards: variable; aproximately 20-25 each year </p>
<p>Eligibility Requirements: </p>
<p>Be entering Cal as a freshman or junior transfer in Fall 2005
Be a resident of California
Have significant financial need and be eligible for financial aid through the FAFSA (Free Application for Federal Student Aid). [UC will mail you a copy of the FAFSA after January 2005, or you may obtain one from your school counselor.]
Have participated in an outreach/college preparation program(s). Applicants who have particpated in a program listed in the UC application on pages 14 are automatically eligible. If you have participated in another outreach/college preparation program you will need to submit the Outreach<em>Verification</em>Form, for approval from the Achievement Award program manager (participation will be verified).

<p>Personal and academic growth inspite of significant financial and life challenges and educational adversity.
Ability to enrich the Cal campus with your unique perspective, background, culture and/or skills/talents.
Enthusiasm for giving back to the community, particularly in helping the next generation of students become prepared for college.
How to Apply:
You must complete and submit the 2005<em>Achievement</em>Award_Application, including a copy of your 2005-06 UC Application. All applications should be mailed to: </p>

<p>Fall 2005 Application Deadline:
Postmarked no later than February 19, 2005. </p>
<p>Please DO NOT submit letters of recommendation, pictures, or any materials other than those requested in the application. Any materials other than those requested will be immediately destroyed. </p>
<p>Selected freshmen applicants will be contacted in early April to arrange a personal interview; junior transfers will be contacted in early May. Award recipients will receive notification of their awards prior to their respective deadline to submit their Statement of Intent to Register at UC Berkeley. </p>
