I'm going to be an Acker Scholar (for the scholarship) and I've also been invited to the Honors College. Should I accept both? The letter says I must fulfill both requirements but any overlap can satisfy both. What perks do I gain with the Honors college that I don't get with Acker's? I'm going to be an Engineering major and be part of the Marching band, so I don't want to swamp myself with too much work.

My D is both Ackers Scholar and in Honors College, and has a part-time on campus job. It can require a lot of juggling. As you know, the scholarship comes with Ackers. Things like priority registration, smaller, Honors sections of gen eds, early housing registration come with Honors College. There are, however requirements that come with both, leadership classes, special seminars, etc, even though some can overlap. But you have to be really careful with your scheduling to cover the bases. And as you already realise, Engineering and band are going to stretch you, time wise.

A lot of my D’s friends accepted the Honors College invitation and then gave it a little time to see how much of an advantage/benefit it was vs time commitment, which is a strategy you might consider.

Congratulations and good luck to you!
