collegeboard.com says that the middle 50% of students accepted have act 27-32. That means that the mean is about 29-30. Doesn't that seem a bit low.
My stats
act=29 (1st time, but will retake hoping for 30 or above)
satII us history(700) chemistry (730)
10 ap (Most rigorous possible) (scored mostly 4 and a few 5)by end of senior year (mostly A and A-) AP scholar with distinction
GPA=4.15/4.0
no class rank, but would be top 3% out of 700 students.
cello player since 4ht grade, amnesty international (10,11,12), math team(11, 12) nhs (11,12) volunteer at hospital(11,12) tutor children(10,11,12), led a mandatory class of about 20 students (only leadership)
first generation college person, biracial (asian caucasion), disadvantaged (low income, parent at mental hospital, divorced, all happened during high school but managed to keep up my grades)

Do I have a chance??

Well, only 13% of First-Year students submitted scores for that, so the data could be skewed. I haven't taken the ACT, but I don't think 29-30 is necessarily low. Isn't it comparable to the middle of the First-Year Student SAT score range, which is 1420 (old SAT)?

29 is about a 1300 i know for a fact. Not sure about 30 though

From the collegeboard website..

1320-1350 30
1280-1310 29

You have a great chance at being admitted to Columbia, especially with those SATII scores and AP Exam scores! A 29 is a bit low for the ACT, and I recommend that, in addition to taking it over again, you also take the SATI, which relates more to writing, and see how you do. Don't worry so much about it, though! I also got a 29 the first time I took the ACT, but ended up with a 34 on my second try, mainly because topics on the Scientific Reasoning portion of the exam seem to shift quite a bit between test dates (I had genetics questions the first time, but physics and geology the second). I also paced myself better the second time, especially with the Reading section.

People who took the ACT are more likely to be from the midwest/west; those same people also get brownie points for being in underrepresented states.

You'll stand a very good chance if you visit, contact the admissions office, and apply ED. RD will be hard unless you show a sincere will to go there.

This is my 300th post! I became a "member" on the Columbia forum! Yay!

what do you mean contact the admission office?? just call them and say i want to go??
