ACT and Colleges on the West Coast

Hi,
I've heard of all the talk that ACT test scores are preferred in the midwest, etc., but I want to apply to UC's (UCLA specifically) using my ACT score.
I really prefer the ACT over the SAT and have scored much higher on ACT practice tests over the PSAT. All the UC's and other schools that I may want to apply for take ACT scores, but I still feel "insecure" submitting only my ACT score to the college of my choice, especially since everyone around me is taking the SATs. Will colleges look at ACT scores with a negative view?

Please let me know what you think; it'll be great to hear some of you guys who've made it to some schools in the West coast with their ACT scores.

Thanks a lot!

the UCs barely even notice the difference between ACT or SAT since the computerized application automatically converts test scores and gpa to the UC point system for eligibility purposes. App readers treat both scores equally.

Harvey Mudd is the last SAT holdout on the west coast to now accept ACT.

Think about it another way: its in the college's own best interest to use your highest test score (whether ACT or SAT) since they report test scores for applicants.

btw: if you are OOS, the UCs are mighty expensive....

Thanks so much. That really helps.
And I live in the California, so costs shouldn't be TOO much of an issue...

Thanks again.
