ACT and SAT holistic review by Adcoms

Hello everyone and thank you for taking the time to answer me!

I currently have a 33 ACT composite, with the lowest score bing a 30 in math. However, I scored an 800 on SAT 1 math section. I am aware that ACT math covers harder material, but will adcoms generally compare my 800 s d 30 scores and give me the benefit of the dout ?

Sorry about the typos, my iPhone wasnt displaying letters halfway through the post. I just want to know if colleges will consider my act math score a fluke (ran out of time) and maybe compare me to getting a 34-35 when they review ACT English and math scores (which generally hold more weight over science and reading)

Bump please

Part of the test is finishing it in the given time. Your ACT score is a 33, and will be treated as such. You can retake it if you are confident that you can do better, but running out of time on a standardized test doesnt constitute “special circumstances”.

I really just wanted to knowing adcoms will see an 800 on sat and refute my 30 on act math

How was your SAT overall score?

There is no published, set procedure on how the adcom reviews applications. Send in both, and let the person reading your file decide however he wants: s/he may take note of the discrepancy, or he may not. But a 30 on one section is hardly something to worry about, especially if your math grades in school are also strong.

I am taking calc BC this year and finished calc AB last year with a 97. My sat wasn’t great, 800 math 620 cr 620 writing (hyped up on hydrocodone during test, leg surgery week before). So I am using my act for admission but I should still send in my sat for the 800 math then, right?

They’re going to treat your scores as whatever the scores are. Your 30 is still going to be a 30 regardless of any other score.

However, if your SAT Math puts you in a better light than your ACT Math, they’re usually going to put more emphasis on your SAT Math.

I’d wager that you could improve your ACT English and SAT Writing scores by eliminating the “with…being” structure from your writing ;). The vast majority of the time the word “being” shows up, it shouldn’t be there. It’s a terrible word.

Funny story, 35 on English ACT WE HAVE A FLUKE HERE! In all seriousness, so I would have a slight edge over a candidate with only a 33 act with the same subscores as me? (35 eng 30 math 32 reading 36 science) , it also worries me that my scores are so far apart…

Do you have to send both?

No, but I already did and just want to see if I’ll get an edge

Scores are looked at in the ballpark, to confirm that you have the level of basic math and reading skills to handle college work. Because preparation and familiarity with the test can really affect your scores, small score differences make little difference. You’re not going to have a noticeable edge over someone else just for one or two points on one section.

Send in both, and hope that if by some chance the person reading your file paid attention to the ACT math score, your SAT score will also be there to be noticed.
