Would it be a bad idea to study for both the ACT and SAT over the summer? Have most of you studied for one, taken it, and then started the other. Post experiences/opinions...Thanks.

i took one right after the other

Did you study for both at the same time? I'm thinking of taking them both in October, but I'm not sure if I should study them together.

how similar are the tests? I would like to study for both together too... other than science are the question anything alike? which are harder?

The tests are relatively similar. The biggest differences are 1) the ACT includes a science section, which is really a test of reading charts and graphs.
2) There is a guessing penalty on the SAT, which means students should guess strategically. There is no penalty for wrong answers on the ACT, which means that students should answer every question on the test.

In addition, many students feel that the ACT questions are not as "tricky", and that with the added science section, the ACT is not as monotonous, making it less of a challenge to concentrate for the entire 4hrs.

Also, the ACT english section places a stronger emphasis on punctuation, which for some students is more challenging.

Rather than taking both tests, why not just take a practice test for each and see which one comes more naturally for you?

I studied extensively for the SAT and only about a week for the ACT. For math oriented students, the ACT will be easier. Make sure you understand the format of the test questions and be ready to answer questions slightly faster than the SAT. Other than that, I found the ACT relatively easy; I scored a 35.

yeah i have the same question. should i just concentrate on studying for one instead of both?
