I'm currently a Sophomore and I'm wondering if it'd be worth the time to start studying/taking the ACT. I took Alg1 in 8th grade, Advanced Geometry as a Freshman and my math for this year is Advanced Trig for the first semester and Advanced Alg2 for the second semester. I ranked 1st Freshman year, and had a 98% overall in geometry.

Since I don't actually learn Alg2 until the second half of this school year, would it be wise to make my first attempt in April/June? I'm debating trying it in December simply due to the Math section; I feel comfortable with the other sections, though.

Sure, why not? It can’t hurt since ACT only sends the one score that you request. While there are schools that ask for all your results, they are only really interested in your top scores. My S14 started taking the ACT in 6th grade for Midwest Academic Talent Search. He’ll be taking it tomorrow for the 4th time. It does get easier with practice and is a pretty good way to measure your progress from year to year.

I was a sophomore last year and took it in April for the first time (scored 31). I advise taking it in your high school’s second semester rather than first (learn more things).
