Hey all!

So I really wanted to take the ACT (like for real) this winter, but I just couldn't find any time. I am currently a sophomore. Does anybody have any suggestions on when I should take my first one? Also, if you were to take the ACT multiple times, do colleges see every score or just the one you want to send?

Thanks!

I took my first as a sophomore after prepping for a few months and got a 33.
I think it’s a good idea to take it if you want to, because if you don’t do as well as you’d like you’ll always have another chance.

Took it earlier this month, got a 32. It’s wicked easy. Just study (I studied for a week…you really don’t need a few months unless you don’t know the content on it).

And you choose which scores you want to send. There is also an option called “Superscoring,” which combines your highest subsection scores to determine your highest possible composite. That is, tests taken at different sittings can be merged. You’d have to send all the scores you want to be included in the superscore to the colleges though, but they will only take the highest scores, so if it’s a weak composite, don’t worry. ;)

^ Most schools don’t superscore the ACT. Furthermore, some require that you send all of your scores, from every test that you have ever taken. It’s generally accepted that schools look down on you if you take a test more than 3 times as well.

Does this count if the first test was taken in middle school?

@halcyonheather, your middle school tests don’t count. I presume you took the test in middle school for a talent search, am I correct?

Yes. (10 characters)
