I'm just gonna put it out there.... I got a 640 on the Math SAT I section. 640. Awesome.

I'm a humanities girl, give me a break!!!!

LOL GO US...ahh this makes me feel better

haha, well, I got a 650 on my math 1- and if that doesn't scream retard I don't know what does. I figure I'm all right though, being as i have two 800's on Bio and American history ;)

Thegreyam: Not to be persnicketty (sp?), but I think this thread needs a reality check and your post specifically was out of line. I'd hardly say that a 650 on the Math I "screams retard." Many kids (with fully functioning brains) would LOVE to get a 650, and your assertion that the score implies a learning disability insults them. Furthermore, I know the term "retard" is used colloquially, but please be mindful of you language in a public forum--especially one that admissions officers are known to read.

I'm happy i didn't send SAT stuff in. then it would be worse :(

I did worse on the ACT than on the SAT. =/

The Math I SAT II has one of the worst curves of any SAT II. Tell your younger friends that even though the Math II sounds harder, with the curve, it is much easier to get a good score on the Math II SAT II.

entropic, I find it surprising that you know that many people at Yale with those kinds of test scores. Did they have AA/sports/legacy going for them? It was my impression that you have to have a pretty damn good hook to get into Yale with an old sat below 1300. Not to break the flavor of this thread, though; scores are never make-or-break, of course, and you always have a chance if the rest of your app's very good.

Akiiriah, did you do the COMC?

haha yep.

canadian open mathematics challenge right?

is this the one with like...hypatia, euclid, etcetc?

It's the one that was written last month, the results were sent out a few days ago I think. I'm the opposite of you, I do well on tests but can't seem to nail the contests...I only got 55/80. How'd you do?

OH that one.

its completely open-ended right?

asdkfalsdfj my teacher didn't give us our results yet. i'll go bug him tomorrow.

Dchari:

One of the below-1300 people was a Lacrosse player. The others were not AA/sports/legacy. I mean, they all had impressive GPAs (3.95+ UW), great ECs (2 Student Body Presidents, and a load of other stuff I don't remember), and are genuinely nice people (who all felt they aced their interviews).

Who knows what their specific hook was, but all of them except the Lacrosse player are looking to graduate at least cum laude and heading to top grad schools next year. Standardized tests should not destroy dreams unless it's a REALLY extreme circumstance (a non-Yale friend of mine scored below the 40th percentile on the LSAT last year...things didn't end that well for her).

I think you still have a shot as long as your test scores are at least average. If you start getting super low SAT scores, then it won't look good at all.

I'm struggling as it is with my cumulative GPA and lack of awards... At least my superscore (and both sittings, I think) are within their 25-75 range.

No part of my app is stellar. Which is depressing. I think my essays were good, though. And recs.

Do they just look at what is higher between your ACT and SAT? Also, no one here really talks about the ACT. What's considered competitive or "good"?

36 = 2400.
35 = 2360.
34 = 2300.
33 = 2220.
32 = 2140.
31 = 2070.
30 = 2010.
approximations, obviously, but close enough.

So, for any top school, would a 32 be considered competitive? (Sorry, ignorant East-coaster here.)

i have no idea, i'm from the east coast too, but i looked it up.

I hope they liked my essays. I think this is the only thing that could distract them from my bad scores...
I wrote about the Sea and about how much I loved it, and loved being close to it... and I hope it was not all clichee and hm....
6 hours and I will know if it was....
