ACT Composite vs. Subscores

So I took the ACT two times.

First time: Composite - 33
math - 36
reading - 35
English - 35
science - 27… really dropped the bomb on this one

Second time: Composite - 34
math - 34
reading - 33
English - 35
science - 35 -> I greatly improved

Superscored: Composite - 35
math - 36
reading - 35
English - 35
science - 35

The problem is, I want to go into a very very competitive school and major in computer science where math matters the most. Does my 34 in the math section the second time I took it look bad? Should I retake the test?

Personally I do not think there is an enormous difference percentage wise (in terms of numbers of students who can score at that range) between a 34 and a 36. At that point I think it comes down to the rest of your application, profile, etc. Pulling that 36 sub-score in math shows that you can do it

Just my ‘mom’ opinion - YMMV!

@SouthFloridaMom9 Thank you! I personally believe that the rest of my application focuses heavily on aspects of math and reflect well on it. If you feel that it would better help assess the situation, and if you have time, you can take a look at my chance thread under my profile! Thanks

Remember that most top schools do not superscore the ACT.

The problem is…you don’t have a problem.

Kidding aside - great scores! Send in the 34 and be proud. Well done!

I agree with the above comment

@fauve Yes I know, but some of them do, like MIT, so I included it.

Thanks @ap012199 and @STEM2017 ! Really made me feel better
