ACT composites.

I just emailed the admissions this question, then figured i could just post it here and cross my fingers for a reply.

I was talking to a friend, and she told me that U of I took the best of each ACT you took.
So- say you got a 33read, 35eng, 24math, and 25sci the first time, and it resulted in a 29.
Then you take it again and get a 33eng, 31read, 29sci, and 27math and resulted in a 30.*

Would they take the 35eng, 33read, 29sci, and 27math? (which would result in a 31)

Or would they just take your highest ACT score and have you hope for the best?

i understand that there isn't much of a difference between a 30 and 31. These numbers are purely hypothetical.

lol the highest one. there is no way they would cross examine the sub scores.

Really?. Garrr.

I know UChicago does that, and i had HEARD Illinois did it too...sigh.

Back to the ACT study books.^^

Dude, you're fine with a 29 and 30 for Uiuc. In fact, I wouldnt worry if you had a 27...

depends on the major blink...but still yea thats fine

Yeah, but my GPA is pretty low(3.4ish)

And my brother got rejected from UIUC with a 30 ACT and around the same GPA as me(though, i'm wondering if it's cause he x) applied undecided and didn't have any ECs besides band to show an interest y) applied reg. admission z) had really horrid essays)

So i'm worrying. ^^ Thank y'all though!!

what do u want to study

UIUC considers that test with the highest cmposite. It does not mix and match subscores from different tests. That applies to both the ACT and SAT.

I want to study creative writing, through the English major.

And i saw, on their application, that you can either self-report the composite, or each individual.

Does this mean i can self-report only my best scores from the two(soon to be three) ACTs? Or i have to self-report them all?

...and i know it doesn't really matter, cause my transcripts will show it anyways...but still.

first off I haven't seen the new app. yet so I don't really know. but here's my philosophy, if the reviewer sees that you messed up i.e. mixed and matched your scores they're going to think you're either trying to cheat or are an idiot and will just deny you for stupidity. that's my belief. these guys show no mercy, I learned the hard way.

Oh- no...you have to put the date taken on them and everything...

I don't know. Either way i was going to report them seperately, but still all of them.

SInce i'm going into writing, i'd like to think that they'd prefer me to score high on the reading/english, as opposed to math/science.

Though well-rounded would be ideal. eh.

I'm not sure what the point of the score self report section is. I don't think it really matters what you put on there. Right at the top of the page it says these are "unofficial scores" and reminds you that you have to send an official report from the test company for admissions. What I did on that section was put my highest composite and then my individual scores from that sitting.

Regarding reporting multiple scores, save your money and send only the test on which you had the highest composite score. I don't think UIUC cares about the scores on individual sections.
