This month I am taking the ACT, but I am seeming to have trouble studying for the ACT English section. I am taking practice tests in The Real ACT Prep Guide, but my scores on the English section are low. My first English section test I scored a 20, average, but not exactly what I want. I went over every question I missed and read some strategies for English ACT and I took the test again, but this time scored a 17.

I'm immensely frustrated that I can't seem to improve! Should I just take more practice tests, going over the questions I get wrong or find a new strategy? I can't seem to apply and learn from my mistakes made on previous tests. Any tips or suggestions?

Is the ACT English correlated with the SAT Writing and CR? Because writing was my worst section on the SAT (score:1650; CR 590, M 570, W 490; 8 on essay). I need at least a 26 on the ACT or a 1200 on the SAT CR&M for the Zell Miller.

Not sure if this is too late, but what I would recommend is taking a small break and get a nice notebook to write down all the common rules you need to know for the English section. You can look them up online and just study that over for a week. Then go back to the practice tests and take a few. You should see improvement because you’ve gained some more knowledge of what you need to know for the test. I was consistently scoring 26-27 on the English section and did this and next time I took a practice test I got a 34!!! I know it sounds crazy but sometimes when you aren’t getting results you just need to learn the material! Hope this helps in the future :)

I agree, looking at the rules for things like punctuation, modifiers, and all that jazz can really help you increase because you now are (more) aware of the rules and structure. I was like you and repeatedly took the practice tests for English but scored about the same each time. Then I realized it doesn’t matter how many times you retake and do practice tests if you don’t understand the concepts. So definitely learn the concepts and good luck! @nativofgeorga
