I'm in a dilemma. I've taken the old SAT twice and the new SAT once. I'm happy with my critical reading and math scores but my writing scores are sub-par. Should I take the ACT or take the SAT 1 again? I hear that if you take the SAT too many times colleges average out your scores instead of taking the highest score.

I'm in a similar situation, radiohead- i've taken the ACT 3 times, but no SAT yet. I'm gonna go ahead and try to take SAT this Saturday...if you're not totally happy with your SAT scores, I would check out some ACT practice tests and see if those suit you better and get you into higher percentiles

Many colleges do not want to see more than 3 efforts on the SAT I and view this as unhealthy and just trying to game the system, from what I've read. You cannot suppress SAT scores, so each college will "see" scores from all efforts. Since you can suppress ACT scores, you are not harmed by taking the ACT more than 3 times. You just choose which scores you wish to have sent.

I wonder if the change from old SAT to new SAT makes a difference. After all I've taken the old one twice but the new one only once, so i haven't had an opportunity to improve my writing score. Thanks for the suggestions.
