I have taken the SAT twice. I got a 1970 the first time and wasn't happy. The second time I went down almost a hundred points (ironically, I prepared more for the second time). I am going to be a senior in high school, so I don't have a lot of time left.

Based upon your experiences (or just what you think would be best), should I try the SAT once more or the ACT for the first time? Either way I still have a month + to prepare.

Thank you so much for any advice!!

I am kind of in the same situation as you, except I have taken the SAT three times. I posted a thread on the forum and asked for advice, and I am leaning towards taking the ACT. I already took it and scored a 27 composite. I am going to work hard in the next few months to prepare as much as I can for the ACT.

For you, it is really a personal preference. If you believe you can still increase your SAT scores by a lot, then take it again. I would recommend that you also prepare for the ACT now and take it in the fall. A lot of people have scored better on the ACT and I have been told that is easier to prepare for than the SAT because it is more predictable.

Really, it is your choice. Good luck on the SAT and/or ACT!

Thanks for the advice! The thing is, I haven’t taken the ACT yet so I am not sure if I will do well.

Why aren’t your scores as high as you want them? Is it because you don’t understand some of the concepts on the test or because you haven’t practiced enough, gotten used to the format, etc? Are you making silly mistakes?

I would recommend thinking about those things and figuring out whether your scores could improve or not. In the meantime, give an ACT practice test a shot to get a baseline score.
