Does anyone have experience asking the ACT to re-score the writing section? Is there a great risk to their looking at it again? Got a 35 composite/23 writing. Do not want to have to re-take.
Why in the world would you want that re-scored? Yes the writing is low but if you have good scores in other things that reflect English language skills and you obviously did extremely well on the Reading, English, why would you want to redone?
Sadly, I have never seen a re-score change a writing score. I have only had a handful of students try this, so maybe some one else can comment on their experience.
@lostaccount it would be because both the established tutoring centering and college guidance office are recommending a re-take, so re-scoring seemed like an option to try to avoid re-taking the entire test.
Found this on a random website – could be there is no downside, other than spending money.
If you’re at all familiar with SAT Hand Score Verification or have ordered it before, you should know that ACT Hand Scoring differs in a couple of ways. For SAT essay Hand Score Verification, they will only rescore your essay if it wasn’t scanned correctly. The ACT, however, will always read and rescore your essay if you order essay Hand Scoring.
With SAT Hand Scoring there is also the risk that your score will go down if mistakes in scoring are found that aren’t in your favor. For the ACT, your score will either stay the same or go up - ordering hand scoring can’t hurt your score, it can only hurt your wallet.
I took the September 12 test date, asked for a rescore, and it added 10 points. My handwriting is not very good, so I think they didn’t even read my essay first time around. I also get my $50 check back since they changed it.
TL;DR Definitely worth it
ask to rescore, basically no risk
