My mom was wondering whether or not it was worth signing up for the ACT in addition to the SAT. I scored a 2280 on the October exam and I've heard alternately that the ACT score is a useful 'supplement' and that it's unnecessary if you hit the 2200+ SAT threshold. What's been true in your experiences? I'm shooting for top twenty schools (Yale, NU, University of Chicago) if it helps, thank you!

I'm a senior so I finished applying to all my colleges, and I'm shooting for the same schools you are and have a similar SAT score. I took the ACT just to see if I could get a better score, and I did. A lot of people I've talked to have as well. I think you should take it at least once; the ACT is easier for some people, and who knows, maybe when you translate your ACT score to SAT you'll get a perfect 2400!

I got a 2230 on my SATs and I decided to take the ACT and coincidentally I got a 36, as smilecherry28 suggested was possible.

I say you should take it just in case. 2280 is good, but I think that 2300 is a better threshold to stop trying at, especially if your aim is that high.
