ACT October 2011 Countdown

The is only one week left. Hopefully everybody feels prepared!

Hi nina128! I’m a international student and this is the first and only time I will take the ACT. I’m feeling kinda’ prepared but I’m afraid of running out of time on the test day. Have this ever happened to you? What did you do? Could you give me some tips on how to manage my time for the reading and science test? Thanks!

Yes, the first time I took the test I had an issue with timing. The best thing I can say when this happens is make sure you at least fill in all of the answers, even if you don’t have time to read the question. On the ACT, guessing can only help you.

In my experience with the reading and science tests, it is unnecessary to read the entire passages. Use the questions to help guide you to the right part of the passage to find the answer. For the reading passage, you might find it helpful to skim each passage and jot notes in the margins. This will help you save time when you need to look back and quickly find an answer.

I’ll be taking the ACT with writing for the first time, so I’m really working on that. I didn’t do so well with the SAT’s essay.

nina do you have any online practice materials or e-book for act?

I do not have any online materials, I just use the ACT prep books at my library (totally free!).

Hi Nina! Did you do well? I finished English and Writing on time, but ran out of time in Math, Reading and Science. I hope the answers I guessed are correct. I need at least a 30. Applying as a transfer!

For the first time I can actually say that I had enough time for all the sections! I feel confident about this test, hoping for an improvement over last time!

The score just come out after November 8th, but the deadline for the December test date is November 4th. Do you think I should register? I’m afraid of registering and then waste money if I get a good score on the October test. I’m an international student and for me the ACT is much more expensive than it is for americans (it’s double the price)!

If you are not applying to college this year, then you should probably wait until January (or whenever the next test after December is) to test again.

I’m applying this year, and the December test is my last chance. But I’m afraid of wasting too much money, ‘cause I also have to pay all the application fees and a translator to translate my documents(transcript, recs, etc) from portuguese to english, and that’s kinda’ expensive!
