I know that most people who apply to UNC send their SAT scores, so does the admissions office pay less attention to ACT scores? I did better on the ACT (33) than I did on the SAT (2130)...so if i send both scores in, will they use my ACT score during evaluations even though most people in the east take SAT? (I'm from Minnesota) I heard they use your higher standardized test score (in this case, the ACT score) in order to help your app in the admissions process.

yeah they use both ACT and SAT if you have them... because I noticed that some colleges combined and mixed my scores from each exam. For example say I got a 34 on English on the ACT (but a 650 on Reading on the SAT) and a 750 on SAT math, but a 17 on the ACT... they sometimes mix it up. I know Elon does it, at least.

I made a visit to UNC-Chapel Hill and they said that they use a table to directly convert all submitted ACT scores to the equivilant SAT scores. They don't have a preference and use your highest score from either test (for any given testing date) for admissions purposes.

According to CB's 2007 College Guide, UNC "prefers SAT, but accepts ACT". No sure how reliable that book is though, considering they say NYU recommends SATIIs when they actually require them. I think I'm still sending just my ACT though.

My daughter was admitted to UNC-CH last year and only submitted her ACT score. UNC was the only school that stated specifically that they would not "superscore" the ACT (mix and match different tests to get a higher composite).
