<p>I have a friend who's been telling me over the past year or so that it's really good to take both the SAT and ACT and submit both if I want to go to an out of state college (my mom said I'm not allowed to stay in state :/). Is this true? I was really hoping to rock this September ACT and be done with standardized testing.</p>
<p>Also, what would be a good score to be comfortable with just the ACT? I'm aiming for 33-34 and I'm pretty sure I can make those scores happen too. I'm looking to apply to UNC: Chapel Hill, Boston College, NYU, UChicago and maybe a few more. All of these are out of state.</p>
<p>Colleges accept both. If you take one and get a score that is high enough for you to apply to colleges to which you want to apply, there is no reason to take the other (with one exception noted below). A 33-34 ACT would be fine, and would actually be high, for the colleges you mention.</p>
<p>The exception is the possibility of a National Merit Scholarship. Many colleges provide some scholarship money for finalists and some even semi-finalists who qualify for the National Merit Scholarship by first scoring very high on the PSAT and then very high on the SAT. The ACT does not have such a program attached to it.</p>
