ACT or SAT?

I hope you fellas don't mind an inquiry or two concerning which one I should study.

I'm going to be a junior in the next couple of weeks and am from the midwest. (Oklahoma) I've heard my territory is big in the ACT, but my goals are going to school on the west coast. (California) I've noticed that some schools I've looked at give you the option or taking SAT or ACT.

Also, which would be the best book to get? Getting a private tutor and sponsored classes are outta the question (way too much money) so self studying would be the way to go.

If you guys need any question's to help determine, then fire away.

Thanks in advance for any help given.

Many people do substantially better on one test or the other, so I would advise taking both if at all possible. Almost all schools will take either test, (I can't think of a single school that won't) so it really doesn't matter which one you take. If you do take both tests, you can just send in only the higher score.
The best book to get for each test is the official one put out by the creators of that test. For the ACT this means * The Real ACT Prep Guide: The Only Official Prep Guide From The Makers Of The ACT * and for the SAT use * The Official SAT Study Guide: For the New SAT. * Each book costs around $15. BTW, don't worry about not being able to afford classes or a tutor. These books are all you need to get a high score.

^^All right. Thanks a bunch! I kinda feel like an idiot going through previous pages and seeing the exact same title for a topic. :p

I have the Princeton Review ACT which from what I've seen, hasn't been too fond by some people here. Did I goosestep in getting that one? Or should I study that, then take the genuine test offered in the official edition?

You certainly don't have to feel like an idiot. I thing just about every question that is asked here has already been answered at some point.
As for the PR book, I found it quite helpful for the ACT. I do seem to be somewhat alone in this sentiment, but I really did find it worthwhile. I studied for my first ACT out of the PR book and my second one out of the official guide, and I only got one point better on my second test. I think the difference can be explained simply by the fact that I was more familiar with standardized testing the second time around.
Good luck!

I also used the Princeton Review ACT book and I found it quite helpful. I thought it went over most sections well. I did not like their science overview very much though.
