ACT Prep?

Hello,

I was wondering how I could increase my ACT scores. My test is December 10. I took the ACT diagnostic test about a month ago and received scores of E:25 M:19 R:22 S:17. Since then I have been studying everyday and night.

English seems to be the only thing I am confident in. I am pretty confused on the Science Reasoning section though.

Any tips on how to get higher scores? I'm aiming for a 25+.

I don’t really know how to help you, except to recommend practice.

Currently, I can get E:35, M:34, R:36, S:33 w/o much effort. My strength lies in being able to see the patters in the questions.

In order to achieve similar scores, you must be familiar with how the test works and the questions on it. Take MANY practice tests, have your mom go out and buy 3+ ACT books. Exhaust every test in them, while paying attention to the question types and correcting your mistakes. A huge score jump after all this would be almost inevitable.

I will be taking the Dec. 10th test as well. May the odds be ever in your favor!

It’s kind of late in the game, but I would go crazy on the practice tests. Write down formulas you don’t know… Memorize them. Math is the easiest, in my estimation, to raise.

hey faustia, what prep books with act tests do you recommend? i have already have the red book.

After studying all day, I managed to change my scores up. :)

E: 25 M: 20 : R: 28 S: 25.

Taking different practice tests all day managed to help. My english score is where I want it; I managed to learn some more math formulas and apply them to the questions; reading has become alot easier to comprehend, and the trick for science is to just read the graphs. :open_mouth: Common sense also does alot on these type of tests.

Still alot more work to be done. Wish me luck!

I recommend Barron’s ACT 36, even for non-top-scorers. It has great hints and explanations.

McGraw-Hill’s 10 ACT Tests. The regular MH ACT book is lame on the explanations and good for noting but tests, so I’d go with the 10 Tests.

Good call on buying the Red Book. It is excellent.
