ACT Prep

I am a 15 year old sophomore from Washington state and have signed up to take the ACT in February. I am desperately hoping for at least a 33 on the ACT and was hoping somebody would have suggestions on how to study for the ACT or any good prep books.

BTW, I just got my PSAT scores back recently and was disappointed to learn that I got 189 as a result of my poor verbal skills and stupid mistakes. Do you think a 33 is an impossible goal for February even if I do everything I can and study hard? I also got a 25 on the ACT as a freshman, but that was with no preparation or dedication to my studies in school.

Thank you and Happy Holidays!

I'm also a sophmore and want to reach 34 on my act by my senior year. This year I took the ACT and scored a 29.
English-29
Math- 26 (those darn time limits...)
Reading - 31
Science 31

First you have to realize that ACT and SAT scores do not really correlate well with each other. I believe that if you put enough effort into it, you can reach a score of 33, but this would entail studying your a** off. You can do this with prep books and practice tests. The prep books I would recommend are: Princeton Review's Cracking the ACT and Getting into the ACT by ACT. Once you finish with these books they should boost your score quite a bit, but you will probably need to get more prep books for more practice tests. The biggest problem I have with the test is the time constraints, so make sure you get a feel for them by testing under real test conditions.

Can we take the SAT, ACT, and SAT II as seniors? I didn't know.

umm...why not? i'm a senior...and i'm taking ACT, SATII....i actually took my first ones as seniors.....my high school is crappy and doesn't prepare us for these things....at least until the end of junior year...

Some schools prepare you for the tests?

well no....i meant the classes in our school sucks...i mean only seniors could take pre-calc and such...so basically SAT IIs were out of the subject...especially biology and chemistry...i mean chemistry was offered to juniors and AP bio only for seniors....soo yea...taking tests before senior year is not encouraged at our school or something...

Ohhh, icic.

well...one more thing that sucks about my school is....i have school in 6 hours...time for bed (4 hours ago)...T_T

Just do practice tests for the ACT. I did not do very well on my SAT verbal, but I got a 33 on the ACT. For the ACT the only practice I had was taking it twice and my score moved from a 29 to a 33 just because I knew the timing.
