Senior has taken ACT twice already. Last score was 32 (E 34,M 34, S,35 and R 24) Very happy with subscores except for Reading. Hoping to bring that up somewhat at the same time maintain the other scores. SAT score was 1470.
Would like to apply to some reaches like Notre Dame specifically that may look more favorable on a higher ACT score. I’ve already sent my previous 2 sittings to them( 1st sitting was 29) Should I send them the 3rd sitting while registering for the ACT or wait and see if it’s better? Or am I obligated to send it anyway? I know they don’t superscore the ACT. I’m thinking realistically a new test score of 33 but I’ll have to put in the time to study the reading. With essays and other applications things to do, is it really worth it??
ND really likes high test scores. Its 25/75 range for ACT is 33-35. So even if you get a 33, you’re still well below average.
ACT range is 1390-1530. So your 1470 is probably slightly above average.
So is there a reason you are still messing around with the ACT?
Send your existing SAT score or take the SAT one more time. You don’t have to send all your scores to ND. Only send your best.
@northwesty 33 is 50 percentile. http://admissions.nd.edu/apply/admission-statistics/ I just went to admission meeting and 32 is 25 percentile. http://colleges.startclass.com/l/1402/University-of-Notre-Dame
@aleg Your first link is from the latest admission stats. The second link is old info. @northwesty is indeed correct. The MIDDLE 50 percent is 33-35. That means the 33 score is roughly in the 25th percentile of admitted students while a 35 is roughly in the 75th percentile. A 33 is a good score but is slightly below the average of admitted students
I would suggest retaking. My D had a 32 , was 1/360 and lots of EC etc last year for 2021 admission. She was offered gateway admission and when we spoke to AO - test scores were a factor as everything else including class rigor /rank etc were all well above average. We went into this thinking 32 was in range and now believe a 33- 34 would have made the difference between gateway offer and regular admission. With all that being said Gateway is an awesome option for those who have ND as their first option and really want to go there over all other schools.
Retake, current ND freshman here and I had a 4.2 and a 35 and took til the waitlist to get in. You don’t want that stress in your life.

A 32 looks to be below the 25% mark but the 1470 SAT looks well in range.
Retake and try to get a 34. Breaking the 1500 SAT would also help.
I’d recommend retaking either ACT or SAT. My daughter had a 34 ACT and 4.0 and was originally deferred EA. Was accepted regular. I believe it was her follow up correspondence after deferral that truly helped. I also believe that if she had a 32ACT during EA she would of been flat out denied. Do not chance an out right denial during EA with 25% test scores. Wait for RD.
