ACT + SAT Subject Tests?

For entrance into a UC, is it really necessary to submit both the ACT and the subject tests? I looked over the UC website for quite a while, and it seems a little unclear to me. My SAT score is decent (er, mediocre) for not studying at all (700 verbal, 670 writing, 520 (!!AH!!) math), but my subject test scores are downright awful: 660 Literature, 470 Chemistry. The Chemistry test shocked the hell out of me. I didn't study, to be fair, but I aced that whole class and maintained a 98% or higher the entire time.

This being said, I was hoping the ACT would be of help to me. I'm going to be a senior in a few weeks, and am planning on taking the test in September. However, if UC's really do want subject tests + ACT or SAT anyway, should I take the subject tests again? Also, if applications will be due in Jan. or Feb. (usually, right?) is there any way I could take the SAT and the SAT subject tests AND the ACT before apps. are due?

Thanks!!

Yes, UCs require SAT Subject tests. The latest test date is in December, so you can take those in October, November, or December. You can take the ACT in September, October, or December. So to answer your question: you'll have plenty of chance to take those tests.

Ah, great news! Thanks for your input, iLikeFood.

Curious, do any other colleges other than UCs require this as well?

Did you take Chemistry AP? Just curious, because I'm planning on taking the chemistry exam and I think some of the SAT2 has AP stuff covered.

kingofqueens: In CA, I'm almost certain it is only UC's. I can't speak for other states.

Emiiliye: NO. I did NOT take AP Chemistry. If you didn't either, please learn from my mistake!! Don't take the exam without taking AP.
