I've taken the ACT twice, once in June and another time in September. Each time I got a 29 composite score. My English scores increased, math stayed the same, and science.... dropped dramatically from a 28 to a 23.
I felt that the September science section was ridiculously hard, it required knowledge beyond what the graphs and whatnot provided. I've taken Bio Honors, Chem Honors, and AP Physics (All that my school offers, although the teachers were horrible...), and should've done better.
I've read threads where people say they got perfect scores because Sept was easy, and other threads where people agree that it was really hard. I want to see the responses I get in this thread, and has anyone else experienced such a dramatic drop in their score?

I got a 30 in science. The questions were pretty straightforward and by looking at the data you could infer. especially with the phenotype questions as long as you understood dominant and recessive. The only set of questions that might cause a problem were the one’s over polarized reflected light but even those had a picture that you could look at to estimate how the light ray would react

science was unusually low for me I got 5 points less than what I usually do on practice tests. Im hoping september was just a hard test and October will be better.

@diehard93:

Which practice tests did you use? And, yes, hopefully October will be easier.

I took my first ACT test this september, got a composite score of 23 and science+reading was what brought it down

i used the red book and princetons 1296 questions

Picture the experiments in your mind is all i can really advice especially for the ones with the different pressures with different gases and what not. For the others, pay close attention to the graphs and tables. Take AP bio doesn’t hurt either Make sure u pay attention to what the question is asking. Don’t worry too much about prepping, I don’t think the science part is really one u can study 4 :).

Oh and i got a 36 on the science

Which courses you have taken shouldn’t have made a big difference on your score. I got a 35 on science. I have taken a lot of chemistry(3 years) and 1 biology class in which we didn’t really learn anything. The chemistry only helped out because it saved me time. (I knew the anser to lthe last question without reading the material.) Don’t worry about studying science so much as become an expert at answering questions about charts and looking for the answers in the material provided.

@ amanda I took Bio honors, Chem honors, AP physics B, and now AP chem. Although im weak in Chem and I specialize much much more in Physics, I got a 35 science in September. I think a lot of my success had to do with reading. I prepped very little for the ACT and instead read as many books as I could. I think that increased my reading comprehension and my analytical abilities, which is crucial for doing well in science. I didn’t overthink any science question and looked for the simplest possible method and answer.

It’s not fair!!! The science part is so hard!!! I got the same score as last time but it’s so much harder than the Feb one.

@diehard do you have a softcopy ebook of redbook and princeton 1296 books?
