ACT scores are laughable. Please help

Hey guys,

took the June act and had a pretty tough time. I tried to practice on my own but I was discouraged after seeing almost no improvement in any of my scores. What I got on the practice tests is what I got on the real one. Would it be possible to go from a 22 to a 30 in 4 months? The pacing of the science and reading were hard for me. English and math I did not know the material

English: 23
Math: 22
Reading: 25
Science: 17
Writing: 8

The story of my life. I had the similar scores…

PRACTICE!!!

I was in the same boat in december! Sit and practice PR, RED BOOK and 1296 PR!!!
They were helpful.

Let me tell you something, last year I got a 21.
E: 20
M: 24
R: 16
S: 25

I really didn’t study at all, I realized needed to raise reading obviously, so I changed my strategy and actually read the books assigned in my english class. One year later after doing just that I got these scores:
E: 23
M: 30
R: 27
S: 25
Composite: 26

It is DEFINITELY possible. After this, I actually believe in myself. I mean I didn’t try at all to improve and went up 11 points in my lowest score and 5 points on my composite. So for the next test I’m actually going to study, all summer. It is definitely possible as long as you always believe in yourself. My lack of confidence made me lose hope and tricked me into not even trying for this past test, but instead I learned that I can really do it. So believe in yourself, you can do it. Never let your mind play tricks on you, because it will try. Best of luck on your next test.

Heres the deal,

Math and English are heavily content based. They are easy to study for and generally are easy to improve. I went up 3 points in both English and Math just by learning more content in school.

Science and Reading are heavily skill based. If you aren’t a good test taker, these sections are heavily harder than they need to be. My suggestion is get comfortable with speed critical reading. Read lots of books, absorb information, and be able to spot information quickly in a chuck of content.

Improvements won’t happen over night, they happen gradually.

thanks for the input guys. It feels like a waste spending 2-3 hours learning material then getting them wrong; its very discouraging.

How did you get your writing score back so soon? We have the ACT results, but not the writing section. I didn’t think anyone got that for a couple of weeks.

I completely agree with papersails. I couldn’t have said it better.

Keep studying, use barron 36 books they are one of the best. My first score was 23 and this recent test was a 27, should of been a 28 but i missed one question. Thus rounded down
