I'm going to be a sophomore this fall and thinking about taking the ACT. I am applying to Bard College at Simon's Rock too and though it's not required I would like to make my application even better. I'm also taking the PSAT for the first time in October. I'm also not that good of a test taker, but I've heard the ACT is a lot easier than the SAT. If I study I'm sure I will do fine. I just don't want to take both the SAT and ACT and I would rather take the easier of the two. I want to stand out from the other applicants. Would you suggest me taking this as a sophomore? It is different because I'm planning on going to college early. I usually do good in writing and reading. I must admit, I'm not great at math. Though, I'm in Accelerated Math and on my way to take AP senior year if I did stay at high school. Or should I take the SAT? What do you suggest? Any feedback is fine and thank you so much!

:)

yes do it!..im the idiot who didn’t take it and now im stuck w/ a 31. my friends who started since late freshman yr went up from the 26-27 range to the 33+ range junior yr. if u ahve 40 bucks and a saturday…do it…it helps in the long run

Thanks smarty. If the application is due by Jan, should I take the October one? I would start and study now for it. Is that enough time? Thanks! :)

The ACT and the SAT are very different tests. The tests themselves are considered equivalent by colleges, but a given student may find either test easier or harder than the other. Since you think you’re not a great test taker, I think it’s a good idea to take the ACT as a sophomore and compare that score to your score on the PSAT and then, as a junior, retake the test that you feel more likely to score higher on.

Thanks and the main reason I’m taking this was for the college too.

Take it!!
I took ACT 8th grade… got a 25 No writting
ACT 8th grade… got a 27 No writting
ACT 10th grade… got a 34 (and 1 pt from 35 i might add) and an 11 on writting
now i feel as there is no pressure. granted there are still those pesky SAT II Tests.
and yes. ACT is easier than the SAT and they are somewhat completely different tests.

Definitely take it early if you want to and have the time/money.

Thanks I think I’ll take it any more feedback?

Yeah, actually I took it as a freshman last year in feb. I got a 26 which was a crappy score, in my opinion, however it allows you to get used to the test and i would highly recommend taking it.

You think September is too soon? I wouldn’t be able to tell my guidance couneslor, because the payments are before school starts. I may want to send them in for the collehe and may take a prep course.
