I’m an in state applicant for EA and my ACT is 29 but my GPA is high at 3.98 with many honors and APs. My school average is 24 I believe and I am top ten in my class. I assume my chances for an acceptance right of the bat are slim, but after a defferal how are my chances. I have a good amount of EC as well.
U of Michigan looks way more beyond ACT, GPA and ECs. So many people on this forum are worried about their ACT but admissions look at the applicant holistically. Essays are very important as well.
Yes, they do holistic review, but GPA is most important and then test score.
It also depends on the college you apply to. 29 is probably insufficient for engineering, but may be OK for some of the other schools like nursing or Kineseology. The average for all UM schools is 31.
Average for all schools is 33
Yes, 31 was the 25th percentile, not average, for admission last year.
That’s higher than Cal and into 1% territory.
I haven’t checked Cal’s latest, but Cal has made a specific move away from test scores to GPA, in my opinion to diversity their student population, since all schools give As, but not all schools score well on tests. In any case, I would guess UM has or will soon pass Cal and UCLA on test scores.
@TooOld4School The admission stat between CAL and UMich are comparable if you break it down to instate and OOS. The main difference is CAL has 1/3 admitted from OOS, UMich has 2/3. Make sure you are looking at admission data, not enrolled freshmen.
