Now the BAD part....my SAT score..... 1480....however i took them agian and may and think i did alot better since the first SAT i have taken a class and had a tutor...i also just took the ACT and got a composite 21...is this better then my current SAT score?

1480 or 21????? 1480 by far.. even if u made a typo for 31, ur sat is much stronger.

He might mean 1480 out of 2400?

1480 out of 1600 or 2400?

EDIT: crap, collegehopeful beat me :)

I'm assuming you mean that it's 1480/2400...

I'm pretty sure that your scores are about equal. I might give the SLIGHT edge to your ACT, but definitely try to bring up your SAT.

If you want specific numbers a 21 on the act corresponds to a 1500-1550/2400 so the ACt wins by 20-70 points so definitely the ACT.

first off im a she not a he...and yes it was 1480 out of 2400

bumpbumpbump

Your ACT is better.......but how in the world do you have such good grades???????
GPA: unweighted= 3.7 weighted: 4.1
Class Rank= 45/270

Some people are just good test takers, and others are great in-class students. My friend who graduated 2 years ago had a UW GPA 3.8 and Weighted 4.3. But sat score of 1400.

My other freind who is a jr right now with me, has a weighted gpa of 4.3 and is ranked 12th. He also has only a 1500 gpa, which really makes me wonder. Because he is really a bright student, but i guess some people are just naturallly bad at tests.

Whether or not she is a good test taker is not the issue. The problem is that she is applying to large state schools which are numbers driven in their admissions. She has a very slim chance of getting into an east coast school with a 1480/2400 SAT. You might get into UMass or Indiana with that score, but probably not the others. Your other stuff is great though, but you still need at least a 1700 to get into Pitt, PSU, Delaware, and Rutgers... altough 1700 is still low.

sheed-- i get good grades because i studfy ALOT thats y im kind of freaking about these tests
Pat2323- i took the sat in may and hopfully i did better....doesnt my GPA outweigh those test scores ne where?

hope2budel, the honest answer is "no". Even if you had a perfect GPA, it wouldn't outway that score. Large colleges usually consider the SAT over GPA because the SAT is uniform across the country, whereas GPA is not. The average SAT at Pitt is around a 1900, and at PSU around 1850. Like I said, you should shoot for at least a 1700. With your excellent grades and ECs, you won't need to meet the average SAT, but you still will have to do respectably.

I'd say your ACT is a bit better, and a lot easier to change, if you can take it again. The SAT requires that you learn a lot of vocabulary and how to play their mind games, but the ACT just requires that you learn a few strategies and very specific concepts in math. In general, the ACT is for good students and the SAT is for naturally good test takers. You seem like the former.

If you just buy a book and spend a few hours with it you can raise your score significantly. I used Princeton Review's and my score went up from a 27 to a 34 in just one weekend, though those were on practices. I've also heard Kaplan's is excellent. Good luck!
