Act vs SAT

• The SAT I and three SAT II Subject Tests (any three Subject Tests are acceptable for example: Math Level 1, Math Level 2 and Literature)

OR

• The ACT with writing

So whats better??

Yale

And even UPenn

Personally, I think the ACT is a better test...more like the kind of material you learn in school. But you need to figure out which test is better for you. Most of my students who attend good private schools do a little bit better on the ACT right out of the box, but the SAT is so ubiquitous here on the west coast that few people even consider the ACT.

You should actually take both: the ACT and the SAT I plus subject tests. Just don't send your scores to any schools until you've gotten your results, then send whichever puts you in a better light. You'll have to pay a little bit more to send your scores after the fact, but it's worth it in my opinion.

You might be able to tell from practice tests which course you prefer.

Another thing to consider is that the ACT is score choice. Will knowing that allow you to relax and do better, or relax and do worse?

BTW I believe Brown now only asks for 2 SAT IIs. If you go the SAT II route for a place that wants three, I think it would be better to not have math being two of them.

Be sure not to send the scores to your high school either if it is one of those places that report scores on the information they sent to colleges.
