anyway, the point is, do you have to get every single problem right to get a full score (36)??

i bought an official ACT book off amazon and uh... it says that you need a flawless to get a full score...

i still havent comprehended that, even though its starting to make sense..

also, how does the essay affect the whole thing? i know they average the 4 scores for each section, but what does the essay do?

No; you don't need to get every question right; my friend missed 2 questions on it and still got a 36 comp.

36 Comp
36, 36, 36, 36 --- obviously

36, 36, 35, 35 ----35.5 average, rounded up to a 36

36, 36, 36, 34 -----same as above^^^^^

Also, the ACT works on percentiles, so you could actually get a 36 on a section even though you migh have missed a question.

and the essay's significance?

ps, thanks everyone

Essay's significance lies only in how any particular college treats it. It is not part of your composite score. To get all 36's in the four subsections you have to get all questions right. You can still get a 36 composite by missing two or three because of the rounding up to 36 of a 35.5 composite.
