Act with or without writing?

Hey everyone!
I took the October ACT and I really messed up, but my ACT writing was a 36. I highly HIGHLY doubt that I can produce another 36 in writing (let alone any section…lol) I am studying all winter for the subjects and I don’t really know how to study for the writing section anyway, so I’m wondering whether it would be a good idea to simply take the ACT w/o writing. My top school (probably will change considering I’m a junior with no predicted GPA or ACT) is Northwestern and their site says they do not take writing into consideration. However, I also live in CA and will be applying to UC’s so I don’t know their policy on superscoring/the writing section in general. Can anyone give me advice/insight on this? I really don’t want to write again but honestly it’s because I’m worried I’ll mess up, considering that it is the fourth hour of testing (I was so exhausted), and it’ll look bad that I went down from a 36.
Thanks!!!
I posted this in the act section with no response so hopefully I can get some feedback here. Thanks

Some colleges require the writing portion but do not look at it. IF your schools are as such, then take the ACT without writing and send both scores. It will cost a little more, but they will look at the 36 from the writing and the other sections.

The rules vary among colleges as to what they will do if you submit both an ACT with writing and one without when they normally require the writing section with the ACT. Some will actually use the one without writing in that situation, others will not. From what I have seen reported elsewhere on the UCs, they will use the scores in the one with writing to determine admission.
