I took the ACT in December without the writing and again during March with the writing. In the test without the writing portion, I got a score of 35, while in the March test with writing, I got a score of 33. When I apply to a college that requires ACT with Writing (but does not superscore), should I send my ACT with the higher score (without writing) along with my ACT with Writing, or will they not even care that I got a 35 on my other test and only look at my lower score with the writing portion? Thanks in advance!
Send both.
Thanks for the reply. For a university such as Northwestern - that specifically states in its information for applicants that ACT with Writing is required - does that mean they will only acknowledge ACTs taken with the writing portion or are ACTs without writing okay too if I send it along with one that included the writing portion (albeit a lower score)? When I read their page on this topic, it was unclear to me whether or not they only looked at ACTs taken with writing. Again, cheers for the response.
The problem you are seeing with understanding Northwestern is about the same as you will see with about 98% of colleges that require the writing with ACT – they just don’t say what they do if you submit an ACT with writing, and thus meet the requirement, and also an ACT without writing. You could contact Northwestern and ask or you could just send both on the chance the one without writing might be considered. There is no penalty for sending the one without writing even if the college does not consider it.
