I had a quick question about the act essay score. I know the essay score does not hurt your composite, but can it help your composite? Like let's say I took the act and scored a 34 on english, 36 math, 35 reading, and 36 science, and my combined english and essay score was a 35. Would my final composite now be a 35.5 = 36? Or would it still remain a 35?

It should stay a 35. The essay doesn’t get factored into the composite at all, as far as I know.

Nope, ACT essay does not get factored into the composite at all. It’s just another score, separate from everything else. Honestly it doesn’t matter much unless you do extremely poorly on it.

The writing does not get factored in.

if it doesnt get factored in, then why is the essay portion important? how do colleges look at the essay when they look at an application?
