I recently just got my score report, and I did excellent on my overall act composite score- i got a score of 36, with composite scores of 36 english, 35 math, 36 reading and 36 science. However. my writing score did not fare as well, as I got a score of 9/12. Yale is my dream school, and I plan on applying EA this fall. Will my subpar writing score affect admissions?
^ Simple solution: make your essays strong.
From what I’ve seen you could cure cancer and still be rejected, and you could do absolutely nothing and have just applied because your friends dared you and get accepted.
I know someone with the exact same ACT scores at you EXCEPT for a 7 on the writing–and they were accepted SCEA to Yale this year. IxnayBob is correct that your focus should be on your essays plus the person I’m aware of had strong English grades, won an essay contest, etc. Anything to demonstrate that the writing score is not an accurate reflection of your writing abilities. Good luck.
