September ACT Writing Scores

My daughter is applying SCEA and has a 34 ACT Composite, 3.99 unweighted, 4.36 weighted. National Honor Society. heavily involved in Musical Theatre and Show Choir in leadership positions and earned state high school theatre award for best supporting actress, as well as numerous volunteer hours and community youth leadership positions.

She finally received her Writing score for the September ACT and scored a 26, to go along with the 34 composite. How damaging will this be?

She scored 35’s on Reading and English and plans to major in Math and Econ. Ironically, writing has been her strength throughout her academic career and has produced a very strong essay for Yale and the Common APP. She will get a strong, eloquent recommendation from her English teacher.

Thoughts?

IMHO, and I’m an amateur at this, the quality of your D’s essays and recommendations from her teachers will count more than how well she did on one Saturday morning.

Fwiw, I have been very impressed with the care with which the AOs read files. Long live holistic admissions

Good luck to your D.

I do note that a 26 writing is different in terms of percentile from a 26 composite, so that makes me feel somewhat better.
