I really need your help guys. I am going to be a senior and I have taken the ACT 2 times so far. I have an above average GPA, i am heavily involved with ECs and have a government job at age 16. I have no doubt in my mind i can compose beautiful applications. My only problem is my ACT score. I originally took 3 month classes for the SAT with Princeton review and ended up getting a 1490. I then persisted the ACT and took classes with a private tutor and ended up with a 25. I then self studied by doing practice problems alot and ended up with a 24....... These are not acceptable for me considering I am applying to NYU, Berkeley, UCLA, UT Austin.... What study tips can you guys give me to help get a 30+ on the ACT. I feel like i have tried everything..... I have 2-3 more times max to retake the ACT and I want to start studying now for the September one but I want to approach it in another way. Please help me. I feel like this is the only thing restricting me from getting to my full potential. Please help.

What sections or types of questions in particular are giving you problems? How are you on time on the test?

English seems so easy for me yet I always find ways to screw up… Math can use improvement but the most important that needs help on is my science… I’m starting to get better with the time and work fast and get it done in time.

Okay. I will tell you what worked for me and/or others, in hopes one of these strategies will be new to you.

Science: I also was rushed on science; I would not recommend reading or even skimming most of the science passages, but head straight into the questions. The science section has very little to do with scientific knowledge, and more ability to read charts/compare ideas. Try to ignore excess info and find the exact thing the question is looking for. Start with the sections dealing with charts, graphs and diagrams first. Cross out columns, etc. that are not being asked about to reduce clutter/confusion. Save the conflicting viewpoints for last. If you have extra time, try to write a brief, one sentence summary of each viewpoint in your own words.

For all the sections: Figure out within a few seconds how to answer a problem. You can take a little longer to answer, but if after reading the question you don’t understand it, don’t know how to use a formula, or have no idea where to look in the passage, skip it. You will have time to go back and try again, hopefully, before wildly guessing.

OP, there’s also a forum just for questions about the ACT and SAT. It’s in the column on the left side of this page.

Thank you guys i really really appreciate it
