I hear everyone talking about their SAT scores but what about for us who took the ACT? I know Brown will accept either but does anyone know what their range is around? I got a 31 when i took them (I am taking them again to raise it) but I was just curious what people who applyed had on their ACT.

same as you, 2nd time was a 32

You can check out the ED and RD results threads, and see what the ACT scores were for people who were accepted, but that's still a pretty small sample.

DianeR's daughter got in with a 32. I was waitlisted with a 31.

Of course, there are many other factors at play as well, but I'd say if you are a reasonably strong candidate, 33+ is a good score. Anything below that and you might have to work a little harder.

Science was my killer. 24!!!!!!! (36R/33E/30M)

I got in this year with a 34.

Actually, my daughter got in with a 30. But the reading and English averaged to 33 (and the other two aren't relevant to her planned field). I think she just scored high enough on math and science not to disqualify herself (92nd percentile -- can't remember the exact scores). Someone said that Brown does look at the subscores ...

You should be able to look up what the middle 50% range of scores is. (I'm remembering something like 29 to 32, but this was a couple years ago and my memories hazy ...) But this wouldn't tell you which of those submitted only the ACT.

Oh, my bad. I guess 32 stuck in my mind because it was my intended target score!

Actually my daughter challenged some questions -- and if she had won, she would have gotten a 32! I thought she had some good arguments but ACT disagreed ... They only repeated that their answers were correct and didn't really answer her.

I guess you need to do a lot to get one of these outfits to throw out a question. I remember an article about someone who pursued a grammatical issue with College Board. It took months of letters with citation of authorities, getting college professors to weigh in, etc., before CB would back down.
