I am a junior right now, and I am going to start my activity log for my extracurriculars. Would it be wise to start off with an anecdote for every single activity? Or would UDUB see this as repetition? If I just showed that I had passion and got something out of my activities, would I be okay?

“Describe up to five of the most significant activities you have participated in during grades 9-12. Why this activity had meaning for you; your highest level of achievement or honor you attained; any responsibilities you had; and the contribution you believe you made to your school, community, or organization. Don’t just describe the activity: tell us what it tells us about you.”

-- If the anecdote does this (and fits) you should be fine.

Remember- each activity log may only be 100-200 words. Use your words wisely. An anecdote may work, but make sure you incorporate all the requirements. Also, use the same form for each of the 5 activity logs. If you’re going to use that for 1, then its best to do that for all 5.

Would anyone care to post examples of their 100-200 word activity descriptions? This format is very different from the common app or most other college apps. Is it important to show the # hours per week/# weeks per year and other details on the common app activity log?

If there are many activities in a given category (e.g. many related clubs, leadership roles, awards), I assume it would be more important to answer the prompt, which asks about the meaning of the activity, even if it means omitting some of the activities/awards?

I dug up my old activity log. I’m not sure if this was a draft or whether or not I sent this in (It was in a word doc I emailed to myself) but this was for Fall 2010 freshman admission.

Activity: ____ Church
Catholicism has been an important part of my life ever since I was baptized as an infant. I have been a volunteer in my parish for the last four years in support of different activities and social ministries under it. I have contributed articles to the monthly newsletter, cooked and served in soup dinners, helped in soup kitchens for the needy and organized fund raisers for victims of natural disasters. I am currently a leader for our youth group. As a leader, I organize discussions and events around various religious and social topics. I have been successful in keeping the youth members of the parish engaged by answering their questions about their Catholic faith. This leadership role has helped in enriching my own faith as I usually share some of those same questions. I also assist in planning and organizing important parish youth activities, the biggest of which is the 2011 World Youth Day in Barcelona where we expect about 50 youth members to travel to Europe.

I also wrote about volunteer work, a cultural club I was highly involved in, sports team, and my involvement with chess as both a competitive player and someone who does computer work at K-8 tournaments/other stuff.

I hope this helps!

Edit: Funny formatting from copy pasting >_<

Thanks, Speedsolver (apropos screen name). This is indeed helpful.

I just wrote my first activity in the activity log. If I posted it here, would someone steal my idea, or would it be ok?

I wouldn’t post it online just to be safe. People just can’t be trusted, although I guess it would be okay to send it to people who have already completed the application and have no reason to plagiarize it if you wanted more advice.

UDUBHUSKIES - feel free to message me and I can give you some feedback :)
